HILVERSUM — In zijn programma over strips en tekenfilms ’Wordt vervolgd’ besteedt Han Peekel vanavond aandacht aan Alfred Jodocus Kwak. Hij kan dat doen nu dit geesteskind van Herman van Veen, oorspronkelijk een sprookjesachtige musicalfiguur, ook een stripheld is geworden. De Utrechtse ‘Harlekijn’ ontvangt in deze aflevering uit handen van de presentator het eerste exemplaar van het album ‘De Wonderlijke Avonturen van de eend Alfred Jodocus Kwak’.

A.J. Kwak werd ‘geboren’ in 1979, toen Herman van Veen samen met Erik van der Wurff in opdracht van het Residentie-Orkest een muziekfabel mocht schrijven. Het resultaat, in eerste instantie bedoeld voor schoolconcerten, was een persiflage op macht en willekeur in de dierenwereld, die een enorm succes in binnen- en buitenland werd. Zo werd hier de dubbel-lpee bekroond met een Edison en verscheen op veler verzoek de vertelling ook in boekvorm.

Nadien is Alfred J. Kwak een eigen leven blijven leiden. Het duo Van Veen—Van der Wurff schreef over de bijzondere eend met het grote hart voor de zwakkeren in de samenleving een musical, die inmiddels op de planken is opgevoerd en waarvan reeds een registratie op de Belgische en Duitse televisie is uitgezonden.

Voor wat Nederland betreft zit een dergelijk televisie-avontuur eveneens in de lucht. Veronica heeft daartoe in januari in Antwerpen opnamen gemaakt. Dit beeldverslag zal evenwel pas na de zomer op de buis verschijnen.

In het stripleven van Alfred Jodocus Kwak houdt Herman van Veen de hand en wel als tekstschrijver. Zijn creatie is en wordt getekend door het koppel Harald Siegermann en Hans Bacher. Het eerste album verschijnt voorlopig in drie talen: Nederlands, Duits en Frans. Maar, verwacht uitgever CNR Boek, de Italiaanse, Spaanse en Engelse versies zullen niet lang op zich laten wachten. Het is de bedoeling van de strip Alfred Jodocus Kwak drie delen per jaar te laten verschijnen.

HILVERSUM — In his program about comics and animated films “Wordt vervolgd” Han Peekel will devote attention tonight to Alfred Jodocus Kwak. He can do so now that this brainchild of Herman van Veen, originally a fairy-tale-like musical character, has also become a comic-strip hero. In this episode, the Utrecht-based Harlekijn will receive from the presenter the first copy of the album The Wonderful Adventures of the Duck Alfred Jodocus Kwak.

A.J. Kwak was “born” in 1979, when Herman van Veen, together with Erik van der Wurff, was commissioned by the Residentie Orchestra to write a musical fable. The result, initially intended for school concerts, was a parody of power and arbitrariness in the animal world, which became a huge success at home and abroad. In the Netherlands, the double LP was awarded an Edison, and, at many people’s request, the story also appeared in book form.

After that, Alfred J. Kwak continued to lead a life of his own. The duo Van Veen—Van der Wurff wrote a musical about the special duck with a big heart for the weaker members of society. It has since been performed on stage, and a recording has already been broadcast on Belgian and German television.

As far as the Netherlands is concerned, a similar television adventure is also in the works. Veronica made recordings for it in Antwerp in January. This filmed report, however, will not appear on television until after the summer.

In the comic-strip life of Alfred Jodocus Kwak, Herman van Veen keeps a hand in things, specifically as the writer of the text.
