			The book retells several episodes ([[Alfred J. Kwak Episode 1\|episode 1]], [[Alfred J. Kwak Episode 2\|2]], [[Alfred J. Kwak Episode 4\|4]] and [[Alfred J. Kwak Episode 5\|5]]) of the [[Alfred J. Kwak\|animated series]] in a dream and through a story by [[Henk de Mol]]. It then tells an alternate version of the story from [[Alfred J. Kwak Episode 1\|episode 12]] and [[Alfred J. Kwak Episode 13\|episode 13]], this time set in summer rather than in winter. All retellings have slight deviations, never completely lining up with the original episodes.

			The book also takes many story elements from the 1989 book [[De wonderlijke avonturen van de eend Alfred Jodocus Kwak: Goedemorgen]], including the names of [[Alfred's brothers and sisters]] and [[Amanda de Vlinder]], but slightly deviating from it as well, giving [[Hannes Snater\|Hannes]] and [[Wannes Snater\|Wannes]] the surname "Ganzenbord" instead of "Snater", which was established by Goedemorgen.

			Most of the book is written from [[Alfred Jodocus Kwak]]'s point of view, except for chapters "De troubadour", "Schoensmeer", "Met pensioen" and "De Kraaienpartij", in which [[Meester Bas Buldog]] is also the point of view character. Strangely in the first two of those chapters it's Alfred's dream we're following. It is then, perhaps, possible that the latter two of those mentioned chapters might also be part of Alfred's dream. The book title translates to "Alfred Jodocus Kwak's dream", and many plot points seem to follow a dream-logic, so this seems plausible. The book does not provide answers to this, likely on purpose.
