Het Colombine concert is a charity event and TV programme for the funding of the Colombinehuis, a holiday house for sick and disabled children who are otherwise unable to go on holiday with their parents or guardians. This house eventually opened its doors in 1997.[1][2] The broadcast is hosted by Herman van Veen, Miranda van Kralingen and a man in a De Grote Beer costume.

Summary

The programme starts with Herman van Veen, on a bus driven by De Grote Beer, talking to young children about the Colombinehuis and what it will become. De Grote Beer stops the bus in the middle of a forest and grumpily leaves the bus. Herman walks over to him and finds out he's been planning to go on holiday to the Colombinehuis only to learn now that the house doesn't exist yet.

Herman, De Grote Beer and the kids are magically transported to a small blue theater where they are greeted by Miranda van Kralingen who portrays a fairy. She introduces them to a small golden bear that will grant wishes if you rub it, but only for fairies and bears. Pediatrician and nephrologist N. Abbad explains why the kids in the theater are slightly ill; they all have kidney failure. Herman pleads that these kids could really use a house like the Colombinehuis. He calls upon the audience to write in to donate money for the construction of the Colombinehuis and to participate in a 5-question quiz.

The Groot Waterlands symfonieorkest does a musical performance conducted by Erik van der Wurff on stage.

N. Abbad continues talking about kidney dialyses and Herman introduces a clip about a girl getting her kidney dialysis which is a three-hour process that has to happen three times a week. This makes it extremely difficult for these children and their families to go on holiday.

Next is a performance of Kinderen voor Kinderen wearing Alfred J. Kwak sweaters in blue, green and red[note 1] , with their song Zomaar.

This is followed by a solo performance from Etta Scollo, an Italian singer and songwriter.

Afterwards, Herman talks with Abbad and concludes it's a good idea to install a kidney dialysis room in the Columbinehuis. Herman then let's Miranda introduce the next three songs she will be singing, which are all in French and written by Francis Poulenc. First off is Les anges musiciens, followed by Le sommeil and finishing off with Ou Le Coq A-t-il la Plume.
