Production background
This character from the book De Droom van Alfred Jodocus Kwak complicates the naming of Anna van de Polder's father, who is also called Jan van de Polder in episode 1 of the animated series. He could have been named after his father, but in the book Anna's father is called Hans "Woerd" van de Polder. It is unknown why this discrepancy was chosen, or if it was a mistake on the part of the writers.
Beyond serving as another death that Alfred Jodocus Kwak has to deal with in Henk de Mol's story in the book, it is very likely that this character was also created to expand the reasoning behind the names of Alfred's brothers and sisters as they were written in the book De wonderlijke avonturen van de eend Alfred Jodocus Kwak: Goedemorgen.[3]
