De wonderlijke avonturen van Alfred J. Kwak: het grote voorleesboek (literally 'The Wonderful Adventures of Alfred J. Kwak: The Big Reading Book') is the first collection in the Netherlands to compile all 52 stories from the animated series in a single volume. The book presents slightly abridged versions of each episode's story, typically concluding with an image sourced from animation cels or production artwork from Character- and Color-Designs for Alfred J. Kwak. Some of this production artwork had never been officially reproduced in a publicly available product before and appears in this book for the first time.
Despite its title containing De wonderlijke avonturen van Alfred J. Kwak, the book does not collect any stories from that series and appears to be otherwise unrelated beyond the name. It does however cover many of the same episodes, but written differently.
Chapter list
All chapters in the book are named after their corresponding episodes, with a few exceptions that have different titles. The reasons for these title changes remain unknown.

Release
On November 29 2010, Herman van Veen hosted the release event for De wonderlijke avonturen van Alfred J. Kwak: het grote voorleesboek at the Stadsgehoorzaal in Kampen during the afternoon. The presentation took place in front of several classes of primary school children.
Among the notable guests were Harald Siepermann, the character designer for the animated series whose artwork is featured in the book; Ryan van den Akker, the original voice actor for the Dutch and German dubs of the series; Max Douw, the then-current theater actor portraying Alfred Jodocus Kwak in the play Alfred J. Kwak: Vader; and Koen Verboom, a representative from the publishing company Kok.
The event featured several performances, including Kwek Kwek Kwek from the original theater play, performed by Max Douw; a rendition of Opzij led by Herman van Veen featuring all the guests along with a children's choir dressed in yellow with red scarfs; and a performance of Alles is Rond from the play Alfred J. Kwak: Vader, also by Max Douw. Additionally, Harald Siepermann took the stage to draw the face and scarf of Alfred Jodocus Kwak on a flip chart.[1]
Book contents
The book opens with a tongue-in-cheek quote from the fictional Cornelius Johannus Quacq, which appears to present the original rhyme from the theatrical production in Old Dutch.

Original Dutch Alfred Jodocus Kwak werd bijna veertig jaar geleden geboren. Hij is de zoon van Johan en Anna Kwak. Johan kwam van op de dijk, Anna van de polder[note 5]. Lang heeft Alfred zijn ouders niet mogen kennen. Door een treurige samenwaggel van omstandigheden werd hij al als eendenkuiken wees. Liefdevol opgevangen door Henk de Mol, groeide Alfred op in Groot Waterland, samen met andere dieren van zijn leeftijd zoals Pikkie de Ekster, Dolf de Kraai en de ganzenbroeders Waggel. Alfred werd vriend van de koning en professor Paljas van Pinguïn en het tegenovertgestelde van Dolf de Kraai. Alfred houdt van waterkroos mét een prikkellimonade, van lezen en zingen, van waggelen, zwemmen en koppeltje duikelen, en vooral van door de wereld reizen. Van altijd maar weer vragen ‘Waarom?’. Waarom? Waarom? En wat kunnen we dan doen?
Alfred Jodocus Kwak is in een groot deel van de wereld een begrip. Een wezentje dat staat voor het goede. Dat niet bang genoeg is om zijn snavel te houden over grotedierendingen als honger, oorlog en ziekte. Een grappig en bovenal muzikaal eendje, door sommigen wel een Don Quichot op zwemvliezen genoemd. Don Quichot was een dromer, Alfred Jodocus Kwak is zelfs wakker in zijn slaap. Waggelt en kwaakt onvermoeibaar voor een vrolijker wereld.

Translation Alfred Jodocus Kwak was born almost forty years ago. He is the son of Johan and Anna Kwak. Johan came from the dike, Anna from the polder. Alfred did not get to know his parents for long. Due to a tragic series of circumstances, he became an orphan as a duckling. Lovingly taken in by Henk the Mole, Alfred grew up in Groot Waterland, together with other animals his age, such as Pikkie the Magpie, Dolf the Crow, and the goose brothers Waggel. Alfred became friends with the king and professor Paljas van Pinguïn and was the complete opposite of Dolf the Crow. Alfred loves water lilies with a fizzy lemonade, enjoys reading and singing, waddling, swimming, somersaulting, and above all, traveling the world. Always asking the question, “Why?” Why? Why? And what can we do about it?
Alfred Jodocus Kwak is a well-known figure in a large part of the world. A little creature that stands for goodness. One that is not afraid to speak up about big issues such as hunger, war, and disease. A funny and, above all, musical little duck, sometimes called a Don Quixote on webbed feet. Don Quixote was a dreamer, but Alfred Jodocus Kwak is awake even in his sleep. He waddles and quacks tirelessly for a happier world.

All chapters in the book are arranged in the order of the episodes from the animated series. Each chapter begins with a large number indicating the chapter/episode number, followed by the chapter title in red and a silhouette of Alfred Jodocus Kwak positioned to the right, flipped horizontally in contrast to the version on the cover. Several chapters also open with a poem. The chapters narrate the respective episodes' stories in 6–8 pages, always concluding with an image of one or two of the characters featured in that story.
The book includes 22 animation cels, 29 images from Character- and Color-Designs for Alfred J. Kwak—several of which are released to the public for the first time in this book—and three images from the production of the DVDs in 2006–2007. At the bottom of each page, three distinct patterns of bird footprints alternate every chapter.
The book for the theater play Alfred J. Kwak: Vader also includes a promotional advertisement for De wonderlijke avonturen van Alfred J. Kwak: het grote voorleesboek on its final pages.
