Anton Snorman's mansion is located in Polderstad-West and is occupied by one person, namely Anton Snorman. Alfred Jodocus Kwak and the white chess queen spot Dolf de Kraai breaking into this mansion during a snowy night. They also encounter Krabnagel de Kater in the garden.[1][2]

Notable features

The mansion is a stately home set within a large garden containing several trees and a gazebo. The square-shaped house features a front porch that extends upward to form a balcony. A large tree stands to the right of the house and loses its leaves during the winter months. The driveway is bordered on both sides by rows of bushes. The garden is surrounded by a large fence with one gate entrance.

History

Doctorandus Anton Snorman used to have staff taking care of his mansion and antiques and jewelery on the inside of his house. Unfortunately, the costs of maintaining all the antiques and jewelery was too high and he had to fire them. Instead Snorman needed to work a free-lance job in directing voice-overs for an advertising agency. One of the people from the street that he uses the voice of for Nijlrok Hap-in-slik-door is Krabnagel. Usually Krabnagel comes scrounging for food and it takes a whole day to get the proper lines out of him.[3]

Other visitors include Meester Bas Buldog looking to talk about literature and the works of minstrel Kukeleku and his fiancée with whom he has a long-distance relationship.[4][5]

In the winter period several jewelery robberies had taken place in mansions across Polderstad by Dolf de Kraai. As Alfred Jodocus Kwak flies over Polderstad using the magic of the white chess queen he spots Dolf de Kraai breaking into Anton Snorman's mansion. The two take a closer look, but find Krabnagel who has it out for Alfred. The white chess queen fools Krabnagel in trying to eat her, but changes back to her chess piece form and makes Krabnagel break his teeth missing biting her. All this commotion wakes Anton and - likely - his visiting girlfriend up and he walks outside to see what is happening. Dolf then runs past him carrying some stolen antiques. Dolf is spotted by Alfred, but this causes Anton to confuse Alfred as a possible partner in crime to Dolf and Alfred flees away.[1]

In the alternate retelling from De Droom van Alfred Jodocus Kwak, this story takes place in the summer holiday, rather than in the winter. In this retelling Krabnagel is only visiting, because of the voice-over job and the need to get some food at Anton Snorman's mansion. Also, someone, presumably Dolf de Kraai, gets arrested by Holmes de Hond. The white chess queen assures Alfred that this could all be a dream.[6]
