Alfred "Jodocus" de Mol is a fictional character that is Henk de Mol's grandfather and was the inspiration for Alfred Jodocus Kwak's name. He is also the original owner of the mine house in Groot Waterland, near Polderstad, where Henk raises Alfred until he's too big for the house.[1][2]

In the Japanese version Alfred is Henk's great-grandfather and the one who owns the mine house is his grandfather.[3]

Appearance

In the photograph Henk keeps of him and the mine house he is shown wearing clogs and a Dutch boy's cap, as well as an overcoat, a gilet, trousers and white shirt with a necktie.[4] His clothes have been described as old-fashioned Groot Waterland-wear.[5]

Personality

Alfred de Mol was known throughout Groot Waterland, always well mannered and in good spirits, making jokes, but never going over the line. He was known to have a big and loving heart. He used to wander away quite often at an early age.[6][4]

Storyline

Alfred "Jodocus" de Mol was a mole living in Groot Waterland and the grandfather of Henk de Mol. He used to be quite the little rascal, who kept going out exploring without telling others. He was called Jodocus as a nickname. Later on he lived in a mine house near Polderstad in Groot Waterland.[4]

Some time after Alfred de Mol's passing, Henk recalls his antics as the son of Henk's friend Johan Sebastiaan Kwak reminded him of his grandfather. Johan and his wife, Anna van de Polder, decide to name their son after him; Alfred Jodocus Kwak.[4]
