Rap de Kiekendief is a western marsh harrier set on stealing Johan Sebastiaan Kwak and Anna van de Polder's eggs to eat.

Appearance

Rap is a brown harrier with a beige neck, belly and legs, and a dark brown beak. He has yellow eyes that are sometimes drawn at a cheated angle where they look to be on the side of his face. This is however not consistently the case throughout the episode. He also has pronounced dark floating eyebrows. He is not seen wearing any clothing, but he is seen several times with binoculars. He has some tailfeathers with darkened stripes that reach higher than his head.

In De wonderlijke avonturen van de eend Alfred Jodocus Kwak: Goedemorgen he is drawn with a slight stubble, and his lower lip, or lower part of his beak, is colored the same beige as his belly. This is also reflected in his character sheet.[1] His browns seem to be slightly more muted as well.

Personality

Rap is a notorious hunter in the neighborhood, feared by the inhabitants.[2] In the rural areas of the Plaspoelpolder animals seem to be slightly more animalistic, which is a trait that Rap both has and doesn't have. He is a bird of prey that steals and eats eggs, however until Henk de Mol reminds him of his wings he forgets that he could have flown away with Alfred Jodocus Kwak's egg and wonders seriously why he didn't think of that.[3]

Storyline

Rap de Kiekendief is first introduced when he's spying on Anna van der Polder's nest using his binoculars. Anna goes away on an errand and when Johan Kwak is distracted by Schor de Kraai and Miriam Merel Rap takes his chance to steal an egg. Johan immediately chases him, both on foot. Rap then trips over Henk de Mol's wheelbarrow and the egg is flung out of his wings. While Henk berates him for not looking where he's going and breaking his wheelbarrow, he also asks why Rap didn't fly, to which Rap doesn't have a response.

Unsatisfied, Rap waits until the eggs are hatched and one of the ducklings, Alfred Jodocus Kwak, leaves the clog out of curiosity. Rap stalks him, commending himself on how he evades Alfred's notice, and goes in to gobble Alfred up, until Henk beats him up behind a bush. Henk then shouts at him to never show his face again. [3] In De wonderlijke avonturen van de eend Alfred Jodocus Kwak: Goedemorgen it's Johan instead that beats Rap up.

When the Beton Maatschappij starts construction on their theme park in the middle of the Plaspoelpolder, Rap is also forced to leave his habitat and starts moving somewhere else with a big suitcase in either hand.[4]
