Disky Communications Europe B.V., also known simply as Disky, is a Dutch Private limited company based in Hoorn, the Netherlands, established in 1985. Disky is the company responsible for producing the Alfred J. Kwak - Jouw vriend voor het leven DVD series and Het GROTE Alfred J. Kwak vrienden spel. Within the Hermans Group Disky Communications has specialized in the marketing and sale of home-entertainment products in traditional and non-traditional sales channels.[2][3][4]
History
After the succesful introduction of CDs in 1983, Disky was established in the Netherlands as a music label with a retail focus in 1985. It focused specifically on consumers impulse buying CDs at super markets. The company grew into the largest independent record label in the country, during the 1990's. It also expanded its product range to include DVDs and books.
Starting 2002, EMI held a majority stake in the label, which was bought back by Hermans Group in 2002. The company Dice Multi Media Europe, a videogame publishing/distribution company part of the Hermans Group and founded in September 1998, was fused together with Disky Communication Europe in 2003.[4][5] In the 2000s Disky shifted its focus to digital distribution of a massive music catalog, containing over 50.000 tracks.[3] At this point Disky boasts a employee total of 60 of which 35 work at the headquarters in Hoorn, working on projects spanning 15 European countries.[6]
In 2006 Disky was tasked to work on a merchandise wave for Alfred J. Kwak, co-inciding with the release of Alfred J. Kwak - Verboden te lachen, which included 17 themed DVDs and eventually six 3 DVD collection boxes. It also included other merchandise like the boardgame Het GROTE Alfred J. Kwak vrienden spel and the CD for Alfred J. Kwak - Afspraak is afspraak. This included making retail a marketing flyer and several pamphlets.[7]
Disky has not been active in recent years.
Way of working
Disky develops and exploits entertainment concepts in areas including music, games, film and video, and cosmetics. It operates across Europe through licensing, in-house management, joint ventures, and content-development partnerships. The company combines product development, marketing, sales, distribution, and industry partnerships to bring these concepts to market through retail and other channels. In 2007 Disky was involved in television, radio, print media, internet, games, music, movies, video, toys and cosmetics.[8][6]
