Production background
The character of Alfred Jodocus Kwak was originally based on the protagonist of Drakestail, originally from a French fairy tale by Charles Marelle. The story was introduced to Herman van Veen by Annet Kossen, with whom he intended to create a picture book. This collaboration ultimately led to an adaptation of Drakestail and the creation of Alfred J. Kwak as a character. Van Veen named him 'Alfred' after Alfred Biolek, a TV-producer from Germany who introduced van Veen to the German audience. 'Jodocus' was derived from the name of a clown and 'Kwak' came from his experience of falling[note 1].
Notes
- ↑ "Op de grond kwakken" means to smack onto the floor, hence why van Veen references the experience of falling.
