The school is a primary school in Polderstad on the Schoolstraat[1]. Two people are known to work there, Meester Bas Buldog the teacher and S. Bernard[2] the cleaner. The story follows Alfred Jodocus Kwak in his primary school years throughout episode 4 through episode 8, but the school only appears in the first three of those. Other students include Dolf de Kraai, Ollie de Ooievaar and Pikkie de Ekster.[3][4][5]

Notable features

The school is a rectangular building with side walls that come up in stepped gables, and a school yard in front of it. The main entrance has a big brown two-door entrance, reachable by a small staircase with circular steps. There is a second entrance on the side face of the building that has a little bell off to the side. On top of the school is a small bell tower. Two windows jut out from the roof, and several windows are flush with the rooftiles. The school yard is surrounded by a white fence.

The main hallway is perpendicular to the main entrance and has foru doors to likely two classrooms. Going around the left end of the hallway leads into stairwell to the upper floor. There's a slight discrepancy where the classrooms have windows in episode 5, but not episode 6. Several spherical lights hang from the ceiling. The interiors all have beige wallpaper on the top half and green on the bottom.

The schoolroom interior has rows of desks which the students sit behind in groups of 2 (or 3 in the case of the sparrow triplets). On the backwall there is a big dark green pin board with multiple papers pinned on it in episode 4, but it appears to be absent in episode 6, where the papers are pinned to the wall instead. A big dark closet, likely with office supplies, sits in the corner next to the door to the hallway. In the front of the room there's a big abacaus a foldable blackboard on wheels and for the history lesson in episode 4 there's a picture of Polderstad from the middle ages, with some more papers pinned to the wall. The teachers desk sits on an upstep. Blue curtains can be used to blind the windows to the outside. In episode 6 it seems that the whole room has been turned 180 degrees, as the windows, doors and curtains seem to have flipped side.

The seating setup seems to be consistent across episodes:

History

Somewhere after the middle ages the residents of Polderstad built a school for primary school children.[6]

This is the first school Alfred Jodocus Kwak goes to and where he likely met Dolf de Kraai. His teacher Meester Bas Buldog would likely have taught him multiple subjects, but definitely history.

Employees

These are the teachers and employees working at the school.

Meester Bas Buldog

Read main article here

An older bulldog that is quite fond of his students and wants to relay as much knowledge as he can. When he teaches Alfred he is considering retiring, but decides to stay as long as possible.[7] By the time Alfred had completed middle school Meester Bas had retired and started living with one of his daughters.[8]

S. Bernard

A St. Bernard janitor who is, according to Meester Bas Buldog, used to saving animals from thick snow and delivering them somewhere safe,[9] which is reflective of how the St. Bernard dog breed is typically pictured.[10]

Unnamed bulldog kid

While not in Alfred's this kid is seen running from the school at the end of the schoolday in episode 4. He does participate in the Olympiad. Possibly this is a family member of Meester Bas Buldog, but the book De Droom van Alfred Jodocus Kwak seems to make a specific point that his nephews aren't living close by.[18] He does participate in the Olympiad.

Unnamed crocodile kid

While not in Alfred's this kid is likely the character seen running all the way in the back from the school at the end of the schoolday in episode 4. He does participate in the Olympiad. He does participate in the Olympiad.
