Character name confusion
Alfred J. Kwak is known for having more than 250 characters[1][2][3], which is a higher than average number for a cartoon series. Unfortunately, this also results in a lot of character confusion. This page goes over all the instances of character name confusion over different languages.
- For some of these instances the wiki team has taken a stance at what is correct and what isn't. This stance might not always align with the productions themselves.
Different names for different characters across publications
- Anna van de Polder's father has several different names. According to the animated series he is called Jan van de Polder. This is also reflected in De wonderlijke avonturen van Alfred J. Kwak: het grote voorleesboek. However, in other books he is called "Woerd"[4][5][6]. For further confusion, Anna's brother is also called Jan van de Polder. To solve this the wiki team has decided to call Anna's father "Jan 'Woerd' van de Polder" and his brother "Jan van de Polder Junior", making "Woerd" a nickname.
Same name confusion
This is a list of characters that have the same name.
- Anna van de Polder's father and her brother share the same name. However, her father is also regularly called "Woerd", which is likely a nickname. The wiki team has solved this by calling her father Jan "Woerd" van de Polder and her brother Jan van de Polder Junior.
- Snel de Snoek and Snel de Haas share the same name. However on their character sheets only the first one is called Snel. The yellow bunny is actually called Hannes Haas. However that's another instance of a character sharing a name, namely Hannes Snater. Both of these instances are very likely by accident.
Characters mistaken for other characters by the production
This is a list of times characters that look slightly the same are confused for other characters.
- In Dutch books and other production materials, Kaspar Rokodil is frequently named instead of Alfons Rokodil. For example in De wonderlijke avonturen van Alfred J. Kwak: het grote voorleesboek, De wonderlijke avonturen van de eend Alfred Jodocus Kwak: Goedemorgen and De Droom van Alfred Jodocus Kwak all mention Kaspar Rokodil as being the financier of Groot Speelgoedland, while the designs show Alfons Rokodil. There are two character designs in Character- and Color-Designs for Alfred J. Kwak, one is called "A. Rokodil" (11/1), whose skin is a more grayish tone, and another is called "K. Rokodil" (82/12), who has a darker shade of green. The first one appears in episode 1, episode 2 and episode 12, while the second one appears regularly from episode Episode 14. In the animated series Alfons Rokodil is likely the mayor of Polderstad, while Kaspar Rokodil is stated to be the mayor of Waterslag aan Zee. To further add to the confusion, Kaspar Rokodil appears in the Alfred J. Kwak logo in the opening with the skin colour of Alfons Rokodil.
